Join a passionate group of performers as they trace the evolution of Bollywood, from black-and-white classics to colorful blockbusters, and bring the spirit and romance of India’s grand palaces, mountain vistas, and sweeping mustard fields to Damrosch Park.

BELLYQUEEN TEACHER TRAINING
This 40-hour course is ideal for serious students, current and aspiring teachers. Participants who pass the written and practical exam and practice teach a minimum of 20 hours outside of the training will be awarded a Bellyqueen Teacher Training certificate of completion, others will receive a certificate of attendance. Deepen your bellydance practice and understanding of teaching tools, anatomy, history, culture, music, business and more with this training.

Saqra teaches and performs Internationally, and as an award winning dancer and instructor (BD UDA, BDoY, BDoU, Wiggles, many other titles), event promoter, musician, CD & instructional DVD producer and WA state registered hypnotherapist, that probably is enough stuff to a start to explain what she has been doing in belly dance the last 40 years

This class will focus on integrating assaya technique into a feminine, modern raqs sharqi choreography. You will be learning a new and playful choreography to a pop style saidi song popular at Egyptian weddings.
If you want to become more confident with assaya handling and technique then you don’t want to miss this class.
No experience is necessary, but an assaya is required.
Please no canes.
Assaya can often be purchased from either Belly Dance America or Turquoise International. A cane with the hook cut off will also work for learning purposes.

Second Annual Middle Eastern and North African Dance Festival, RAQS WITHOUT BORDERS, from 08/31/17 to 09/02/17 in New York City
• Opening gala show on 08/31/17 at the University Settlement Theater, NYC from 7:30-9:30pm.
• Dance workshops on 09/02/17 from 12pm-5pm with a lunch break:
12-2pm: a sassy-classy oriental saidi master workshop, taught by Torkom Movsesiyan. Bring your own cane/stick!
2-3pm: Lunch break.
3-5pm: an Egyptian shaabi master workshop with Jacques Alasmar.
5-6pm: Dinner on your own.
• Competition and a closing gala show on 09/02/17 from 6:30-9:30pm at the American Center for the Alexander Technique:
First/second/third place: solo performer category to compete for King/Queen of Raqs Sharqi. First place winner of King/Queen of Raqs Sharqi will receive a full 2018 VIP package access.
