Karim Nagi Workshop

 Hosted by Riskallah Riyad

Workshop includes:
Musicality for Dancers
Live Drum Solo for Dancers

WORKSHOP NOON-3 p.m.
WORKSHOP CONTENTS:
Musicality for Dancers (Dance Class) ~ Despite any mastery of technique and bodily dexterity, true dance exprssion requires musicality. The best dancers are those who embody the music in their movements. Several recurring themes in Arab music will be explained in emotive, non-musicl terms. The class will cover Taksim, Melodic Themes, Vocal vs Instrumental Songs, Rhythms & Rhythmic Changes, Melodic Modulation, Song Stucture, Orchestration and Instrumentation. Karim will guide the students through several songs and lead them in dancing to each of these themes. This movement class will help the dancer become the physical personification of the music.
Live Drum Solo for Dancers (Dance Class) ~ Everyone loves a drum solo where the rhythmic drums and accurate body lock together. Karim is a drummer and a dancer, so is uniquely qualified to effectively present this to dancers. Drum solos in Egyptian, Arabic or Cabaret style are systematic. They have predictable themes. Karim will teach the iconic Hagalla sequence, the simmy-to-roll relation, dum hips & tak shoulders, signaling, Masmudi's many dums, Wahda Kabira to Fellahi, Ayoub's momentary Zaar, and how to "Finale" together benevolently! This class teaches the dancer how to understand and communicate with the drummer, what to expect and how to be ready for improvisation.
PLACE: John Vitti’s Studio
10 Precision Rd.,
Danbury, CT

WORKSHOP FEE $90.00 or early rate by 1/26/2019 $75.00

SPACE IS LIMITED!!!
