Workshops
-------------
**Introduction to North African Dance with Samantha**
An overview of popular dances from the Maghreb (Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia). The goal of this workshop is to give dancers the tools to recognize the musics and rhythms of common dance styles from the region and essential movement vocabulary appropriate for each style. (Sat, 10 am - noon)

**Muwashahat/Samaii with Morwenna and Walid**
The Samaii is a dance of elegance and simplicity, but it can be challenging to interpret. It is performed with the Muwashahat, a poetic form of music that originated in Muslim Spain. The Egyptian/Lebanese style of Muwashahat was first developed for the stage in 1979 by renowned choreographer Mahmoud Reda. Learn the basics of the rhythm, steps, and as time allows, a short choreography. (Sat, 1 - 3 pm)

**Introduction to Khaleeji Dance with Kay**
This workshop focuses on the folkloric style of khaleeji dance as a social dance, as performed by people in their homes. Kay will also include a short discussion of modern-style khaleeji, and compare and contrast the two styles. (Sat, 3:30 - 5:30 pm)

**Dance party!** Everyone! Sat. 7:00 - 9:00 pm

**Debke! with Morwenna and Walid**
Debke is the national dance of Lebanon and the Levant. It is a line dance performed socially and on the stage. We will cover the basic steps and learn a choreography (Sun 10 am -noon)

**From Roots to Stage: A Discussion on Presenting Folkloric Dance. Led by Kay and Samantha, with participation by everyone! **
A panel discussion on the challenges of presenting the folkloric dances in public, including how best to present the dances for Western audiences, and how to get out of the solo dance mentality when it comes to folkloric styles. (Sun 1:00 - 3:00 pm)

Workshops:
Please wear comfortable clothes and bring water!

1:30-3:00- Soft and Sweet, Deep and Juicy with Elizabeth Muise. This is an all levels class which is perfect for someone who wants to try bellydance for the first time or for the seasoned dancer who wants to go deeper with their practice! We will refine technique and play with movement qualities in our dancing. We will experiment with juxtaposing light and flowing movements with deep and juicy isolations. Class will culminate in a short combination.

3:00-3:30- Break. Feel free to bring a light snack and shop around!

3:30-5:00 Salimpour Grab Bag with Angelique! Heard a lot about the Salimpour format but not sure what it is all about? Or maybe you’ve taken a few classes and want to further your knowledge. In this workshop we will discuss the differences between the Suhaila and Jamila formats and how each apply to the belly dance world. We will touch on the importance of proper technique and how it is the baseline for personalized movement. We will talk about layering - but not your average combinations, and we will touch on finger cymbals concepts. The great thing about this workshop is it can be tailored to those in the room, which means all are welcome and all will leave with a new appreciation for why this format is taking over the world!

5:00-7:00 Dinner, shopping and mingling! Grab a plate of middle eastern food and check out the vendors! If you are performing in the show this is also your time to change into your costume!
We cannot change at the performance location, so please make sure that you are performance ready before you leave Beacon of Light. We will need to collect all of our belongings and leave Beacon of Light by 7:00 so that we can be at the performance location ready to go by 7:10!

We are not charging a ticket price for the show, but we are asking for a $10 suggested donation. This contribution will go towards the band.

IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO PERFORM message Elizabeth on FB or email her at redmuise@hotmail.com for a performer application!

HEADLINING the show will be Angelique, Elizabeth Muise, and Ghost Siren who will be performing to live music by Boom Boom Shake!

Last but not least, please tell your family, friends, and fellow bellydancers to come on out to this event! :) Let’s all have a great time together! OPA

As many as the moves made by just one body...the peculiar sound of electric violin is leading us in a journey inside the music where we’re going to find new landscapes and views using our body to tell what we see and feel and learning how to listen the music in a proficient and creative way for choreography as well as improvisation.

All live music is composed and played exclusively for this workshop by Simone D’Eusanio, electric violin player and composer of Tribal Nova project.

From 5pm to 7pm
Alice Giampieri with live music of Pete List

“Built your castle of magic spheres”

Focusing on upper body and arms movements, we will work in group formations to slowly create immaginative shape .
